Our impact and commitment to sustainability

At StoryCycle, we are dedicated to making a tangible difference in children's lives and for our planet. Discover how our model creates lasting impact through literacy and environmental stewardship.

How we make a difference

StoryCycle creates impact in two connected ways: helping children read more and helping good books stay in use for longer. For children, we provide schools with fresh, age-appropriate books that support reading for pleasure, vocabulary, comprehension, and curiosity. Our packs are organised by year group, subject, and reading need, giving pupils more choice while saving teachers time. For the environment, we rescue high-quality books that might otherwise sit unused or be discarded. By checking, curating, and circulating them between schools, we extend each book’s useful life, reduce waste, and lower the need to buy everything new. The result is a simple circular model: more children get access to books, and fewer books go to waste.

Measuring our growing impact

StoryCycle is currently preparing its first school pilot, so we are not yet presenting completed impact figures. Our initial goal is to collect and circulate at least 3,000 children’s books across a small group of state primary schools. We plan to measure the number of schools, classrooms, and children reached, how frequently the books are used, which packs are most popular, teacher feedback, and the number of books kept in circulation rather than discarded. As the pilot develops, we will share clear examples and verified results, such as the number of books delivered, estimated cost savings for schools, pupil engagement, and feedback from teachers. We believe transparency matters, so we will only publish impact figures once they have been properly measured.

Our commitment to lasting change

StoryCycle is designed to create lasting impact by keeping both books and funding in circulation. Instead of donating books once and stopping there, we quality-check, curate, and rotate them between schools so each book can support multiple groups of children over time. Schools receive fresh, age-appropriate packs each term, while worn or unsuitable books are responsibly replaced or recycled. Our subscription and sponsorship model helps cover sourcing, storage, delivery, and replacement costs, making the service less dependent on one-off donations. Revenue is reinvested into maintaining the book cycle and supporting schools with the greatest need. We also measure our impact through books circulated, schools and pupils reached, teacher feedback, reuse rates, and estimated school savings. This allows us to improve the packs and show sponsors exactly what their support achieves. By combining literacy impact, book reuse, and a sustainable funding model, StoryCycle aims to build a service that continuously enriches children's learning and protects our environment.
